Vijayawada: Municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) minister Ponguru Narayana said the TD-led NDA alliance government will open 100 Anna canteens in 33 municipalities of Andhra Pradesh on August 15, coinciding with the Independence Day celebrations.
Addressing municipal commissioners of the state virtually from the secretariat on Tuesday, he directed them to complete refurbishing of the canteens by the next week.
On their behalf, the commissioners assured the minister that the renovation works at all Anna canteens will be completed by August 10.
The minister asked the municipal commissioners to ready another 83 Anna canteens by the end of August and another 20 by the end of September. He asked officials to monitor food storage and drinking water facilities within the canteens to ensure that eatables are served within the canteen premises in a hygienic environment.
Additionally, Narayana directed municipal commissioners to complete desilting of drains in local bodies by August 20 and provide basic amenities to houses in TIDCO townships in the state.
