Vijayawada: NTR district joint collector Nidhi Meena has instructed mobile dispersing vehicle (MDU) operators to ensure that ration distribution to BPL cardholders is completed by the 17th of each month. Meena, accompanied by officials from the civil supplies department, inspected the ration distribution process via MDU vehicles at Ajith Singh Nagar in Vijayawada on Saturday.
During her visit, Meena highlighted the state government’s extensive efforts to provide high-quality essential commodities to BPL cardholders through the public distribution system (PDS). A total of 374 MDU vehicles have been deployed across the district for this purpose.
The joint collector also directed civil supplies department deputy tahsildars to oversee the distribution process and ensure it meets the 17th of the month deadline.
In addition, the civil supplies department is offering toor dal, steamed rice and rice at subsidised prices through special counters set up at Rythu Bazaars and private supermarkets such as Ushodaya, Metro, Reliance and DMart.
Meena noted that toor dal, priced at Rs 181 per kg in the open market, is available at a subsidized rate of Rs 150 per kg. Steamed rice is being sold at Rs 48, compared to Rs 55.85 in the market and rice is priced at Rs 47, while its market rate is Rs 52.40.
