IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall for Coastal AP

Visakhapatnam: IMD Amaravati has forecast heavy rain for coastal Andhra Pradesh from June 25 to 28. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam for four-days till June 28.

Gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely over the coastal region and Rayalaseema during this period. Lower tropospheric south-westerly winds prevailed over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, over Coastal AP and at one or two places over Rayalaseema on Sunday night and Monday.

Except for a few districts, the state received good rainfall so far this month.

Rayalaseema region received excess rainfall in June. However, the rainfall activity has decreased in the past one week. Farmers are hoping for good rainfall for a week to speed up the sowing during this Kharif season.

Meanwhile, the cyclonic circulation over northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal was less marked over the same region on Monday.

Scattered low and medium clouds with embedded intense to very-intense convection lay over Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Gulf of Martaban.

The southwest monsoon continued to surge forward covering more areas in central India. The northern limit of monsoon continues to pass through Veraval, Rajpipla, Ujjain, Vidisha, Siddhi, Chaibasa, Haldia, Pakur, Sahibganj and Raxaul. Conditions are favourable for further advancement of the rain-bearing system.

Since Sunday evening, Vijayawada received 55.2 mm of rain, Paleru Bridge 33 mm and Nuzvid 22.4 mm. In Rayalaseema region, Kuppam received 30.4 mm, Thottambedu 25 mm and Srikalahasthi 24.8mm.
