Visakhapatnam: Three teens drowned in the check dam at Jami mandal of Vizianagaram district. On Tuesday morning, six teenagers reached Gostani river check dam for swimming. Witnessing one of their friends drowning, one after the other, they jumped into the water to save the other from drowning. In the process, three persons drowned and the remaining reached the shore and informed the local authorities.
Police and firemen rushed to the scene and launched the search operations. The missing teens have been identified as Ashok (19), Shakit (16) and Rajik (14) from Vizianagaram Cantonment.
One of the body was recovered and the rescue team is still searching for the remaining two bodies. Locals claim that illegal sand mining in the lower part of check dam was the reason for the mishap.
