'Don't let Che Guevara remain symbols on T-shirts'

HYDERABAD: Aleida Guevara, the daughter of Cuban revolutionary Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, appealed to people to learn about her father’s ideology and not let it remain just a symbol, during her one-day visit to the city on Sunday.

She said, “Che should not just remain as a symbol on T-shirts and posters. Young generations should learn and know more about Che and his ideology, his work and his efforts to strive for world peace and equality.”

Guevara was speaking at an event wherein she was felicitated by the National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba at Ravindra Bharathi. She was accompanied by her daughter, Estefania Guevara, and visited Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram earlier in the day.

In her address, Guevara recalled her memories of her father, who went on to become one of the most influential revolutionary leaders of the 20th century.

She also said that Cuba continued to remain in solidarity with all countries despite the USA’s laws blocking trade in her country.

Guevara, praising India for having a woman as a prime minister since its Independence, said she hoped the same for her country to ensure equality between men and women.

Telangana High Court Justice G. Radha Rani, Senior BRS leader and vice-chairman of Telangana Planning Board B. Vinod Kumar, CPI(M) state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram and CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, among others attended the event.
