Efforts on to streamline traffic flow in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a development that augurs well for traffic movement, DGP Ravi Gupta and other department officials are working on initiatives to regulate and streamline the flow of traffic in GHMC limits by implementing effective measures. They include adopting modern technology for policing and providing training to handle traffic challenges.

The focus is on new flyovers and the traffic situation in the Musi River vicinity. The establishment of centres dedicated to traffic awareness is also on the agenda.

Gupta urged the civic body to prioritise traffic issues and act accordingly.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Hyderabad traffic additional DCP Viswa Prasad said that “As of November, there are 39,96,975 vehicles in the city with 1,63,284 of them added last year. We are fine-tuning signal timings, enhancing public transportation and promoting alternative routes,” he said.

With regard to busy roads like Mehdipatnam, Nanalnagar, Rethibowli, Masab Tank, Lakdikapul, Jubilee Hills, Begumpet and Panjagutta, where there are numerous complaints by the public, he said that there were planning traffic adjustments, especially during peak hours.

“Our focus is on removing obstacles from sidewalks as they are causing problems to both commuters and pedestrians. We are also addressing the problem of disruptions caused by heavy vehicles outside their permitted time of 1 pm to 4 pm. Overall, we are actively working on resolving a multitude of issues,” he said.

Using tech-driven smart traffic signals and surveillance systems for efficient traffic management and collaborating with city planning authorities for seamless traffic solutions will be priorities, Prasad added.

Involving community members through awareness programs, social media and meetings to gather feedback on traffic-related issues, and working on them, will be a regular feature, he said.
