Telangana government sounds alert about bird flu; asks officials to ensure preparedness Telangana

Hyderabad: In a top priority circular given to officials, Telangana government has asked them to be on high alert and ensure proper preparedness to prevent ingress of avian influenza as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was reported in other States. Seeking the attention of the district Collectors in the State to inform about the HPAI reported in other States, Special Chief Secretary to government, Sabyasachi Ghosh, in the circular, said that the Central government requested the States to strengthen biosecurity measures for preventing the spread to protect the poultry population.

He asked the district Collectors to enhance awareness among the poultry farmers and stakeholders and the public about the HPAI prevention and critical role of the biosecurity measures apart from preventing transportation of sick birds and proper disposal of dead birds. They should be informed to bring any unusual deaths of poultry to the notice of staff in the veterinary and Animal Husbandry department. District level meeting may be convened with the Forest, Police, Health and Animal Husbandry department to discuss the measures to be adopted to prevent the spread of the disease from other States into Telangana, under intimation to government.
