Hyderabad: Amidst protests by Goshamahal Parirakshana Samithi demanding the government to withdraw the plans, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy laid foundation for construction of new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) building on Friday.
People have been raising concerns over the traffic issues, environmental issues and others due to the construction of OGH.
Accompanied by Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and others, the Chief Minister laid foundation for the OGH building.
The project is being taken up with a cost of Rs.2700 crore and is expected to be ready in two years. The Government is utilizing 26 acres of the 38 acres, for developing the hospital with 2000 beds.
The balanace 11 acres are likely to be used by police department for its requirements.
The existing OGH is a heritage structure and case is under progress in.the High Court. With heritage activists opposing the plans to construct the new building at the same place, the government is constructing the new structure in police grounds, Goshamahal.
