Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday strongly criticised the Congress government for neglecting the Bathukamma celebrations, an important festival for women in Telangana.
He raised several questions, expressing disappointment and frustration over the stand of the government on the Bathukamma celebrations.”Does the Chief Minister not care about Bathukamma? Is there no heart to make arrangements for the women’s festival? Can’t the villages be kept clean even during the festival? Should our sisters play Bathukamma amidst garbage and filth?’ he questioned.
“Panchayats are in such dire straits that they can’t even afford bleaching powder or lights for the lake bunds!” he resented, questioning the lack of funds for organising the State festival.
“Why has this misfortune of not having funds to celebrate the State festival come upon us? Why is there so much negligence towards the celebration of Telangana’s identity?”
He emphasised the importance of celebrating the unique festival that worships nature in clean surroundings and criticised the government for cancelling the distribution of Bathukamma sarees. “Are they going to say that there was no need to celebrate Bathukamma grandly?” he asked.
