Hyderabad: An attempt by Congress workers to attack Telangana Bhavan, the headquarters of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and burn an effigy on Monday, was foiled by BRS workers.
Accusing the BRS of posting objectionable posts on social media, Congress workers, especially followers of Forest Minister Konda Surekha, reached the Telangana Bhavan in the afternoon and raised slogans and even tried to burn the effigy of BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao in front of the BRS office.
As BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s press meet was scheduled to be held at the office, many BRS leaders had arrived at the venue. As Congress workers were raising slogans and tried to burn the effigy, the BRS workers stopped them and demanded that they stage their protest elsewhere in the city. Refusing to heed to them, the Congress workers continued the sloganeering and tried to barge into the BRS office. Tempers ran high and heated arguments took place between the Congress and BRS workers at the main gate.
As the Congress workers continued to argue and abuse them, the BRS workers warned them to leave the place. Amidst the melee, the police arrived at the spot and dispersed both sides and brought the situation under control.
Meanwhie, former Minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao condemned the posts over Forest Minister Konda Surekha on social media and said respecting women was the responsibility of all individuals.
“In this issue, neither the BRS party nor me, will tolerate such incidents. Along with Konda Surekha, I too am worried over the inconvenience caused to her,” Harish Rao said on X.
Condemning the misbehavior on social media platforms, the former Minister appealed to all to act responsibly on social media.
