Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao countered Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks to save democracy on the occasion of International Day of Democracy, charging him with double standards.
He questioned Gandhi’s commitment to democratic values, while Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy continued to undermine democracy in the State.
Rama Rao said democracy thrived on accountability, but not tyranny, pointing out how Rahul Gandhi preached about democracy and people’s rights, but turned a blind eye to the autocratic rule of Revanth Reddy who trampled democracy in Telangana.
“True democracy is about the voice of the people, not unchecked power of one person,” he stated.
He slammed the Congress government in Telangana for its unchecked power, bulldozing homes, crushing dissent, attacking journalists, silencing voices, ‘buying’ MLAs, and even attacking opposition MLAs.
“Is this your idea of democracy?” he asked Rahul Gandhi. He likened the Congress rule under Revanth Reddy to “autocracy, hooliganism and anarchy”.
The BRS working president also took a dig at the Congress administration in the States of Telangana, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh.
He pointed out that while the Congress government in Karnataka was all set to increase milk prices for the third time in less than 18 months, the Himachal Pradesh government wanted to legalise cannabis.
“Revanth Reddy who came to power promising six guarantees in 100 days, is putting up a drama everyday. Welcome to Congress’s style of administration,” he added.
